HI, I'M DR SAM CASEY

I am a therapist with over 16 years of experience working with children and families. My passion for play therapy took me from being a 15-year-old high school dropout to a PhD graduate.

MY STORY

I witnessed the power of therapeutic play as a childcare worker. This revelation propelled me back to learning...immersing myself in all things psychology, children & family studies, play therapy and social work. 

I gained registration as an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker (Clinical Social Worker and Registered Play Therapist. 

But after 3 degrees, the professional registrations and over 18 years of experience working with children and families, I knew I had to get creative in... giving away my skills!

 

WHY PLAY PRESCRIPTION?

The idea came to me years ago when I realised that's pretty much what I do as a child therapist trained in play therapy...create a prescription for psychological/behavioural challenges...using play. A play prescription.

I wanted to teach parents and professionals the skills I use in the therapy room...for use outside the therapy room. As In entered motherhood, and began exploring and working in the space of maternal mental health, conscious parenting and holistic psychology, I realised a holistic approach was needed in using therapeutic play skills.

Play Prescription is not about just about providing more knowledge. But rather, taking you on a journey of exploration, awareness and connection, to support you in making sense of your challenges and experiences.

  • Master in Social Work- Griffith University, Queensland, Australia.

  • PhD (Psychology)- Charles Darwin University, Northern Territory, Australia.

  • Registered Play Therapist with the Australasia Pacific Play Therapy Association (APPTA)

  • Accredited Mental Health Social Worker with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW)

  • Medicare Provider (Mental Health Care Plans)

  • Maternal Mental Health Training- Seleni Institute
