Parent Consultation
What if understanding your child starts with understanding yourself?
Here's what I know after years as a Child Therapist:
It's never just about the behaviour. It's about the meaning you attach to it.Â
When your 4-year-old refuses to get dressed, you're not just frustrated by the defiance. You're frustrated by trying to get out the door for work, none of the generic strategies 'work' and those thoughts are running through your head (like they are doing it on purpose or why don't they respect me).Â
Or when your 7-year-old is too scared to get on stage at a school event, it's likely to trigger your fear, embarrasment or feeling like it's your fault. You may have people around you that reinforces this- and blames your anxiety for your child's, which makes this moment feel even more heavy.
But the behaviour is just the trigger. The real issue is the story you're telling yourself about what it means.
Most parenting advice tells you how to manage your kid's behaviour.
I help you understand what's actually happening—for you AND for them.
This consultation will show you what's really going on under the surface, so you can respond strategically - in a way that supports you both.Â
Most parents come to me saying some version of: "I want to parent differently than I was parented and give my child what I didn't have"...
But then feel like they either repeat patterns or go to the other extreme.Â
As a child therapist who specializes in play therapy, intergenerational conditioning and trauma and parental wellbeing, I help you see the invisible threads connecting your childhood to your parenting.
I'll help you understand:
• Why certain moments with your kid feel SO triggering (even when you know logically, it's normal child development)
• What your child is actually trying to communicate through their "difficult" behaviour
• How to repair with your child and yourself—not by trying harder, but by understanding what's happening for both of you + use therapeutic play based tools that actually work.Â
Whether you're a parent who wants to show up differently, or a professional who works with families and wants this lens for your practice, this consultation gives you insight and a way forward.
Â
This Consultation is for you if:
• You catch yourself reacting in ways that don't align with how you want to show up
• You want to understand what your child's behavior is really about (not just how to stop it)
• You're tired of surface-level parenting advice that doesn't address what's actually going on
• You're curious about why certain moments with your kid trigger you so intensely
• You want tools that work for BOTH you and your child—not just behaviour management
• You want research-backed therapeutic approaches to connect with your child
And you're ready to take action toward the life you actually want
What This Is (and Isn't)
This is: A professional consultation where I use my expertise as a child therapist to help you see the patterns you're stuck in, understand what your child is communicating, and give you specific play-based tools to use with your family. Think of it as getting an expert's eyes on your situation- not ongoing therapy, just focused insight and practical direction.
This isn't: Ongoing therapy, a therapeutic relationship, tips on how to get your kid to behave, or a substitute for mental health treatment.
This is a time-limited consultation focused on giving you insight and tools.Â

About Me
I'm Dr Sam Casey, a former child therapist- now a therapist & consultant specialising in cycle breaking and creator of the Play Prescription® Method.Â
As a Child Therapist, I noticed a massive gap in support for the parents to take healing and growth outside the therapy room. I saw the magic of play therapy in the clinic and wanted children and parents to experience this beyond therapy. In fact, research supports the use of therapeutic play skills at home and has been found to be more effective than therapist led interventions (for both the child and parent), which means the therapeutic play skills that transformed my work with children could also transform their parents lives too—if they had access to them. In fact, it was the exact thing they needed to break cycles- within their child and themselves.
I noticed a gap - there was limited frameworks that support both the child and parents healing and growth, alongside each other.
So I created the Play Prescription® Method—making evidence-based therapeutic practices accessible to parents and professionals who need them most- outside the therapy room.Â
My expertise: Registered Play Therapist | Accredited Mental Health Social Worker | PhD in Psychology (Play Therapy) | Training in Maternal Mental Health, Perinatal Psychology & Trauma Informed Practice | Over 20 years experience working with children and families.Â
