What do past participants say?

Past participants say two things set this certification apart:

1. You can implement immediately—not after 16 weeks.
"You can start implementing from the start. It's not about perfection—it's about showing up for our kids and ourselves just a little more each day."
— Teacher, 10 years experience

2. The inner child work is transformational—and it's prioritized.
"Childhood experiences was profoundly life changing for me personally. It felt like a weight had been lifted off me—and I had been in therapy on and off for years. The inner child exploration just clicked for me and made my work professionally more valuable."
— Early Parenting Practitioner, 9 years experience

"I thought this certification was about learning play therapy skills for kids. What I didn't expect was how practical it would be—and how much the inner child work would transform my practice."

Most parents have this deep desire to give their kids what they didnt have.

Yes - this incudes material things, but it goes much deeper than this. I'm talking about the love, care and emotional support they didn't receive. The safety, the stability and the opportunities they never had.

So many parents genuinely want to do better for their child. So they read parenting books, follow advice, try and put their child first.

But then they lose it:

- They react in ways they swore they wouldn't

- They repeat things that sound like their own parents

- They yell, shutdown, get overwhelmed/stressed...

Find themselves either sitting on the bathroom floor crying, or wondering why this feels so hard, or if this will ever get better and the constant unsolicited advice from others makes them fear their worst nightmare has come true...

That they are messing up their child.

But the responses they fear, feel deeply ingrained, almost automatic. And no amount of love, knowledge or intention can fix this.

Cycle-breaking doesn't happen through more knowledge or advice alone. Although parents want to do better, they have not experienced better. And then they try to do better by using the same shame driven approach that creates the cycles in the first place.

Cycle breaking requires new experiences. Less shame, more compassion. Less blame, more curiosity. Less rigid rules/shoulds and more space to experiment.

This is where play therapy principles can be so powerful. Play becomes therapeutic when driven by a philosophy that creates the conditions needed for deep change and breaking cycles.

If you work with kids and/or parents, you see cycles play out everyday.

And yet most trainings focus on the surface level stuff, behaviour management and strategies, rather than getting to the root conditions and then creating the therapeutic environment where patterns actually shift.  Many professionals assume therapy and therapists are the only options for healing, growth and breaking cycles. But research in play therapy shows that parents and anyone working with kids and families can actually utilise therapeutic play skills effectively, and it benefits kids when these skills are used in their everyday settings, not just in therapy.

The Play Prescription® Method provides you with a structured framework that supports you to:

-  Understand what drives behaviour and cycles with a child therapist lens

-  Support parents through triggers, their own childhood experiences and breaking cycles

- Create the conditions for healing and growth in everyday life

- Use therapeutic play for emotional support and connection and target common childhood challenges

- Apply this to any role where you work with parents and/or kids

This is how cycle-breaking becomes practical and useable. Beyond the therapy room.

This Certification is for you if you:

✓ Want a complete framework that focuses on breaking generational cycles using evidence based play therapy principles and psychological theories, adapted for specific childhood and parenting challenges
✓ Are tired of PD trainings that are loaded with generic info and want tools you can use immediately
✓ Support children with their mental wellbeing, emotions and behaviour, in your current role
âś“ Work with parents and want to support them when their child triggers their own stuff and support them towards living the life they actually want
âś“ Are willing to do your own inner work (because supporting families brings up your own patterns too)
âś“ Want a child therapist lens on behaviour without becoming a therapist

What past participants say:

"This course is like no other professional development I have attended. It challenges your own unconscious biases and explores inner child work as a priority before working with parents and children. This is a key element that I believe has been missing with trainings in order to build real authentic connections to build parental capacity."

"Finally, a framework I can actually use. Not just 'use play therapy'—but HOW to prescribe play specifically for separation anxiety vs. explosive behaviour vs. attachment struggles."

"Having the Play Prescription Method gave me clarity. I can assess what's happening, understand the underlying need, and prescribe play that actually targets the challenge."

This isn't just another professional training.
It's a practical method that transforms your personal and professional practice.

THE PLAY PRESCRIPTION® FRAMEWORK

A 5-pillar framework grounded in psychological theory and evidence-based play therapy principles, designed to break generational cycles and use the magic of therapeutic play...beyond the therapy room.

1. Childhood Experiences
Our early experiences shape our lens, for how we see ourselves, others and the world. We explore: -

• How the first 7 years shape emotional defaults
• Attachment patterns and insecurity as survival strategies
• Trauma beyond diagnosis (big T and little t)
• Shame, guilt, and inherited parenting “manuals”
• Reparenting and inner child work

2. Needs Underlying Behaviour
Behaviour is communication driven by an unmet need. We explore:

• Behaviour as communication
• “Challenging behaviour” as adaptation
• Development vs. defiance
• You and the child vs. the problem
• Curiosity instead of blame

3. Self-Commitment
How we show up for ourselves- balancing self-compassion with self-accountability. We explore:

• Psychological flexibility under stress
• Self-compassion alongside accountability
• Awareness of inner critic patterns
• Stress literacy (“wired but tired”)
• The capacity to respond intentionally

4. Role of the Environment
Our environment is always working with us or against us. We explore:

• Emotional climate and systemic pressure
• Boundaries that build trust
• Over-functioning and control
• Environmental stressors sustaining behaviour

5. Therapeutic Play
Play therapy-based tools and how to prescribe them for specific challenges. We explore:

  • Child-Centred Play Therapy philosophy
  • Directive play therapy approaches
  • How to decide which play therapy philosophy to utilise
  • How to intentionally prescribe therapeutic play for specific challenges such as fear and worries, explosive behaviour, dysregulation and attachment struggles.
  • How to design therapeutic play activities for your specific role

The reality of this work

All parents are not parenting from their adult self. When parents interact with their kids, their own childhood wounds are triggered.

Like when their child has a tantrum, this triggers their own beliefs about being a 'good parent' raising a 'good child' will surface.

Or when a child pushes back on a boundary, this often triggers parent's feelings of being disrespected.

Or even when their child is upset, the parent often feels guilty, like they need to 'fix' it.

But we are not immune to this as professionals. We also have 'default' beliefs about kids and parents that get triggered when working with families, no matter how much training or qualifications you hold.

This certification prepares you for all both, supporting yourself and parents with reflective processes—while giving you practical tools to prescribe play that addresses the child's underlying need.

You'll learn:

- Recognising when a child is triggering their parent's childhood experiences
- How to support parents and kids without rescuing or fixing
- How to prescribe therapeutic play that targets the specific challenge (not generic activities)
- Reflecting on your own professional practice

This is what makes Play Prescription® different.
You get a clear & practical method—not just inspiration.
You learn to prescribe for specific challenges
You implement immediately—not after 16 weeks.

Why I Created This

I'm a Registered Mental Health Professional and I've been working with children and families for over 20 years.

I went from a Year 9 graduate to gaining my PhD- which stemmed from my passion for play therapy.

My PhD was marked in the top 5% because I wasn't afraid to call out the 'elephant in the room'—the importance of reflecting on our own beliefs, bias and assumptions, especially for us professionals. What I found was no amount of knowledge or training could replace the need for self-awareness and understanding.

Early on in my career, I found the mental health system to be broken:

Mental health training is largely inaccessible. Most trainings are targeted to mental health professionals and overlook the wisdom of those who are with children, day in, day out; their parents and the professionals that work with them.

But even with the trainings out there, they often miss the fact that interacting with kids will bring up your own 'stuff' too- your own past experiences, trauma and conditioning. Trainings often focus on generic advice that target observable behaviour without getting to the deeper and root causes of healing and growth.

That's why I created the Play Prescription®, Method:

I created a practical cycle-breaking method that teaches healing and growth, alongside kids that goes beyond the therapy room.

My expertise: Registered Play Therapist | Accredited Mental Health Social Worker | PhD in Psychology (Play Therapy) | Training in Maternal Mental Health, Perinatal Psychology & Trauma Informed Practice | Over 20 years experience working with children and families.

Get a clear method you can implement from Day 1.

Not just theory—but practical tools that translate research into real support for families.
